"The work of Aji V.N. has an archetypical character. His drawings are symbols, without being pedantic. In one stilled moment, they capture the distressing side of our existence: our fragility and the fallibility of our ambition. Even the most intoxicating beauty, such as that of plants in full flower, will fade. When art offers an escape route from this dilemma, Aji V.N. knows just how to make use of it!" (Wilma Sütö)
The artist has held solo exhibitions at Nature Morte, New Delhi (2009) and at Mirchandani+Steinrücke Gallery, Mumbai (2009 & 2007). Some of his important group participations include 'Have I ever opposed you? New art from India and Pakistan' Faye Fleming and Partner, Geneva, Switzerland; 'Hommage a l'art du dessin' Institut Néerlandais, Paris, France (2010); The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow, Russia; The Third Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. Against Exclusion (2009); Affair 1 x 1 Gallery, Dubai. U.A.E, Verloren Paradijs. Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, The Netherlands (2008)
Aji V.N was born in Kerala in 1968 and educated in Trivandrum (BFA) and New Delhi (MFA). He currently lives and works in Rotterdam, with his wife and artist Juul Kraijer. Log on to www.ajivn.com
